Jaxx Liberty was a multi-currency cryptocurrency wallet developed by Decentral Inc., a Toronto-based blockchain company founded by Ethereum co-founder Anthony Di Iorio.
Launched as an evolution of the original Jaxx Classic wallet, it was designed to make digital assets easier to manage through one interface. It was free to use across Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, Linux, and as a Google Chrome extension.
Its main appeal was accessibility: users could set up a wallet with a 12-word backup phrase and view more than 80 cryptocurrencies—including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Binance Coin—from a single dashboard.
Jaxx Liberty was non-custodial: users controlled their own private keys, stored on their device.
A defining feature—and a responsibility.Jaxx emphasized a unified experience and self-custody—but like any hot wallet, it came with limits and risks.
A modular dashboard brought together assets, portfolio tracking, market charts, block explorers, and news.
Decentral did not hold users’ funds or private keys. Sensitive wallet information stayed on the user’s device.
Its hierarchical deterministic design could generate new addresses for incoming transactions, helping protect privacy.
Decentral Collector Cards and the Decentral Unity loyalty system encouraged engagement with partner services.
There was no staking interface or direct NFT management. It was not ideal for holding large balances in a hot wallet.
Remember: A non-custodial wallet gives you control, but also makes backup-phrase security your responsibility. Anyone with your phrase can control the associated funds.
Fake Jaxx websites and apps target former users by asking for their 12-word secret phrase to “restore” or “migrate” a wallet.
Once entered, that phrase can give a scammer full control of the wallet and its assets. Fraudulent sites may appear high in search results and can look convincing. There is no legitimate Jaxx migration process, and no official Jaxx representative will ask for your secret phrase.
You may be able to access assets using a reputable, currently supported wallet. Never download a Jaxx app or enter your phrase on a Jaxx-branded website.
Protect your phrase first. Only enter it directly into an official wallet app you have independently verified. Avoid browser-based “recovery” services, links from ads, and anyone offering to help through direct messages.

Find its official website independently. Check the publisher, app listing, and current support documentation.
Use the wallet’s own recovery flow on a trusted device. Never paste your phrase into a website or send it to anyone.
If no balance appears, a derivation-path or address-type mismatch may be the reason. Research that wallet’s documented options.
Correct phrase, zero balance? Jaxx used coin-specific derivation paths. In some wallets, you may need to select a different path or address type, such as Legacy versus SegWit. If a phrase is rejected, carefully review word spelling and order against trusted BIP-39 references—never upload the phrase to check it.
If you entered your words on a fake Jaxx site, treat the wallet as exposed. If assets remain, move them as soon as safely possible to a new wallet created with a fresh phrase. Do not reuse the compromised phrase. If you are unsure how to proceed, seek help from a trusted security professional—never from the site that collected it.
